A couple DRZ9255 questions

So I think I've decided on getting the Clarion DRZ9255 for my "new" BMW E30. From what I've read it sounds awesome, and it seems to have a nice clean simple look that should mesh well with the old-school-ish interior. The other decks I was considering were the Alpine 9835, 7998 and Rockford 8250, but the Clarion seems to be the best of this bunch from what I've read. If anyone has any other opinions, please share.

So the questions:

1) How does the 9255 handle CD-R's?

2) I just want to clarify that I could use my ipod through one of the AUX inputs? I know the info won't be displayed on the deck and I won't be able to control it with the deck controls.

Thanks for any and all help!

CD-R's play fine in the 9255, just won't play MP3 files, gotta burn them as WAV's (Audio CD).

There are 2 AUX inputs, you can use a mini-to-RCA cable from the iPod to one of the AUX inputs.

Or, you can use Clarions iPod adapter. With the iPod adapter, the iPod WILL be charged, and CAN be controlled from the HU, its just limited. You have to create 5 playlists on the iPod, labeled Clarion1, Clarion2,...., Clarion5. The 9255 will only see the 5 playlists, thats it.

Slick316, thanks for the info man; exactly what I was looking for. I had tried searching for anything I could about this deck on here, but just had those two questions/points I wanted to clarify before I moved forward with any purchasing.

So for the iPod, you can't select any artists then? Just the playlists.

Hooked up through the Clarion adpater, can you choose music through the iPod itself? I just know for that my friend's Pioneer one, you can't. It just shows Pioneer on the iPod screen when it's hooked up and the controls are locked out.

With the Clarion adapter, its just like your friends Pioneer, except it shows Clarion on the display.

The 9255 just doesn't do much with the iPod adapter. All you can select are playlists. Because the 9255 will see the iPod as a changer, you are limited to the 5 playlists (each playlist equals a disc to the 9255), the sixth disc is "all tracks mode" which will play all the tracks on the ipod.

As long as you organize each playlists (one for rap, one for rock, etc.) and keep the amount of songs in each limited, its not a bad adapter. But if you have a 20GB+ iPod and thousands of songs, its not for you. At that point, using an RCA to Mini cable and utilizing one of the 9255's aux in's would be best.

At that price point you should also consider the Nakamichi CD-700II, McIntosh MX-406, and the Alpine 7990.

I have the 7998 and it's features and improved output stage are certainly worth considering.

I agree on the iPod deal, crap in - crap out.

I love the mx-406.....I wish so much it was satellite radio ready, but then again you would have a similar case as the iPod.
