96 honda accord over heating on idle

Whats the level of the coolant look like. Are you low? Whats the color of the coolant look like as well, is it dirty? When you di the T-state did you bleed out the cooling system of air pockets? Possible your cooling system is air bound causing it to over heat. When you say over heating is the temp gauge going up on the dash like into the red, or is the coolant over spilling out of the overfill bottle?.. Im sure that the fans come on at a certian temp and run until temp is down to a certain level. Do you have two fans or one. Is both fans working. When this is happening to is your AC on as well?
The coolant level is a little over the max line for now. It was green before I drained out about 90% of it when I changed out the thermostat, but I replaced it with water. When it starts to over heat, itll just keep rising, mostly over half way. But I start to rev up the engine, or turn on the AC so it goes back down. Im sure itll go all the way up to the red if I leave it alone. And nope, it doesnt over spill at all. I have two fans that kick in when the car starts to over heat, and both turn on if I use the AC. It still over heats when the AC is on, but not as fast or as much as it does when the AC is off.

Ghetto?
yes, keep an eye on the collant also. Id say it has to do with the fans though, u say they kick on for a bit and thats it?
yeah.

Have you had the water pump checked? I dont know if I understand you correctly though, just what I take from your post.
I've never checked the water pump.

how many miles on the current waterpump?if it does better when reved its probally low in coolant or it may need a waterpump.
Not sure on how many miles it has, but I am sure I haven't ever changed it since I bought the car. I've had the car for about 2 years.

When I rev the engine, it starts to cool down, but the second I let go of the gas pedal, it starts to over heat again. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

bleed the coolant there is a bleed screw on t-stat housing pour coolant until it comes out bubble free and squeeze the hoses with the rad cap off and car on
and do this until there is no bubble and leave the cap off until the fans kick on

but remember to keep the radiator full while doing this
I drained out about 90% of it with the radiator cap off. Maybe it has bubbles in the pipes?

How do I keep the radiator full when its all drained? Just keep pouring coolant in the radiator?

thanks for everyones help so far //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

dude its probably as simply as you needing a new thermostat. take it out and see if it fixes it. If not just run some wire from your fan to your battery to make sure your fan didn't take a shit. There are lots of things that can be wrong with it if those aren't it. It could also be the temperature switches. which run around 30 a piece.

I already changed out my thermostat with a new one. I know my fans work because they come on when the car starts to over heat.

if you rev the motor above idle and it begins to cool down that leads me to believe you have poor coolant flow for some reason...radiator could need a flush...or it could be a bad waterpump...but not likely...most likely a stopped up radiator

I usually check the fluid in the radiator and it always seems to be full. I do this when I first turn on the car, so when its cool.

So youre saying flushing out all the coolant could help?

thanks

If he revs his enigne up and it cools down I cant see it being a flow issue. If the water pump is bad its not going to do anything.

? with car running is there any noises to be heard. Like listen in on that water pump is it making any noise like its broken apart interanlly.

Im saying he has air pockets. Or this is all normal and hes over killing it. Being his fans come on and temp goes down. One thing let that baby go and see how high the temp goes. Get a t stat gauge and put it up close to the thermostat housing and see what the temp reads there. To compare it to the reading on the dash. How hot is it in your area right now too?
