8" sub comparable to jl 8w7 but cheaper?

Ideally i was looking at what 8" sub would be best to put behind my console in my truck that would give me the the best sound. i have 2 10s but i had to remove a seat to have space for them. while i love SQ i figured something along the lines of a 8w7 right in the center of the truck would give the closest sound to 2 10s.

but after looking at the close to $500 for the 8w7 i thought i would see what everyone said. a good balance of sq/spl would be ideal but i would want it to be loud and sacrifice some SQ, i gotta have my bass //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

OP wants SPL. Thats who cares.
This and for that matter put a Kicker L7 8 against a W78 at 20hz...see who wins.

Probably the guy who saved $350.

SA, Kicker, DD would all three be woofers that would outperform JL.

SA and Kicker would be two that would be leaps and bounds cheaper.

Negative.
Positive, my old 2 L7's out did 2 W7's in the same vehicle install and the W7's had more box space.

I talked a friend with a custom built trunk box of 4 W7s to buy an L7 in a preloaded box at trade days...The 1 L7 on the same amp did 2db more than 4 W7's. Needless to say I've never came across JL subs that could compare to square. SQ, yeah they win; output they get put to shame.

No. I suppose you just randomly metered 20hz because you knew this thread was in your future. The L7 will not play as low and loud as the 8w7.

And sounded 20x worse
I didn't say anything about SQ and the OP said they were willing to sacrifice some of it for SPL. My Solo X's are even less musical, but at that level of output there is no way to keep parts in the cab from making noise...so it's rather pointless.

I didn't meter at 20hz, metered at 45hz because they were both tuned in the 30's. I'm just saying the square sub will have no problems at 20hz in a correct box. The W7 is so focused on SQ that it doesn't give any output except at tuning frequency, and even then somewhat less musical subs are going to out perform it on SPL/loudness side.

But does output level at 20hz really matter? Not to me, since I can't think of anything that I listen to that goes that low(actual music).
this

OP, look at SA8 and DD1508. the JL is simply over priced, not that it isn't a good sub, but no where near worth the money. You could bet 2 SA8 have money left in your pocket and be louder than a 8w7

Don't sleep on True Bass 8's
This FTMFW! I cannot stress how awesome those 8's are. If you want a good SPL/SQ compromise sub, this is it! Got louder than my AQ 8" (basically a lower power handling 1508) and sounded better than any other 8 I've heard, including the 8w7 at a shop. The dub 7 was in a prefab, granted, but still sounded better ported than the dub 7 sealed.

Very true, but my point was the 8w7 is above the rest in this region. Which is kinda the topic of the thread considering the title. None of the woofers really compare to it. I ask you this, if the prices were exactly the same which would you pick?

Also, I'm not arguing the fact that the 8w7 is overpriced. Heck, I would never buy one unless it was under $200. If I were to pick I'd probably get the ID8s. They are probably the closest to comparing. My truck has a 1508 in it right now, but I'd still rather have an 8w7 than it.
