6th order or typical ported more spl?

While it is true that you get a DB boost from ported/tuned enclosures, all you really have to do is tune for that one magic frequency you plan on going for to hit your number. You can do that a number of ways.

Personally I like a sealed small enclosure that can handle higher wattages. You can tune to hit your frequency, and use higher power behind the subs. You also stand a better chance of being able to use it as a street system since it is likely to play on more notes than a tuned port.

Since you are going to hit a higher note for DB drag, this works out good.

i remember the 'small sealed' days, but I'd have to go look to see the last time anyone won a national championship with that type of enclosure.

OLT, when you say higher wattages, what kinda numbers are you talkin' about?

I've built smaller ported enclosures to aid in power handling though...REAL small.

I used to built them about the size of the old school kicker solobaric tens box. I think that was .54 if I recall. We stuffed 40 tens in there and doubled the recommended power of the subs. It's been way too long to remember the details, I have not owned car audio stores since 2001, but I remember seeing a max rating of say.... 250 watts on a sub and we doubled it.

I can't speak for pro DB drags, but for the street events the guys seem to be running boxes tuned around 50 hz and that's WAY too low for DB drag IMO. We were running much higher.

I was using 55hz in a SUV. changing cars, changing amps, changing batts so I don't know where I'll be soon.

idont want 1 freq, i want good flat response from 20-80 but loud.
What sub(s) are you going to run? I have a box here I designed in 2000 that has performed flawlessly for going on 6 yrs. It's cumbersome in size, but hits every note very hard. It is very similar to an old VT technologies box, but not muddy like the VT was. I think the port has 1.3 cu ft in it alone.

Yes it is very car dependent, but I always had 65 hz as my magic number because with the tight small boxes and the high power I could just drive the piss out of everything. It proved to be a winning combination against the lower tuned cars in the tri state area. We tried tuned port also, but it never hit what the small sealed did tuned at 65hz.

I have no idea what things are like these days. 6 yrs later I'd have to play catch up on any newly proven tricks, but I know we were running 143 with two 12", and my single 12" was running 138. This was when we were experimenting with an aluminum GSD 12 and a tuned port box. Since I was designing street systems, the trick had to be that the box hit most every note rather than just one. That made it a bit more tough to pull the numbers.

yes, yes it does.

60, I'm guessing that nothing from decware is working? I have room AND LOVED the WO.

My port was 2.3 cubic feet. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

VT, now that's old school!

I'll grab a pic of the box I was using. It's out in the garage. I was able to hit down to 32hz and up to around 70 without varying past 3db either way. Average was 138 for a single aluminum GSD 12" on an Ample Audio A226x which is a realistic 250RMS in 4 ohm mono.

Be right back..........
