2ohm or 4ohm subs?

I plan on running a Hifonics bxi1206d and I want to run 1 dd 1508 off of it. My questions is do I buy 2ohm or 4ohm dvc? If I buy 2ohm Is that too much for the little 8"? Or do I buy 4ohm just to be safe? Or do I go with a smaller amp? 500x1?

Here are the specs.

Super D-Class Monoblock Amplifier

RMS Power Ratings:

1 ohm: 1200 watts x 1 channel

2 ohms: 900 watts x 1 channel

4 ohms: 450 watts x 1 channel

If you have the amp then use it. the VC type doesn't matter really.

What does matter is that you set your gains correctly. This will limit the power output to protect the sub. d4 coils will give you 2ohms and plenty of power. I'd use that one.

BTW: Why an 8? Space issues? Any way you can make a 10" fit?

what !!! the gains ARE NOT volume or power controls .the gains are set to match the signal coming out of your deck,THATS IT .if not matched properly then you will get a clipping signal faster.which in turn can and will damage the voice coils of the woofer.

Yes, a gain is used to match the preout voltage, and its main purpose is to adjust the amount of power the amp is putting out (where the preout voltage should be the max the knob ever has to go). Saying the gain isn't a power control is wrong.

Buy the 4ohm DVC model. Wire it in parallel for a 2ohm load, then watch the JL youtube video of how to set your gain //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Thats what I thought too..

The way I like to think of it is a signal comes in the amp, it is amplified (hence the term) but the output signal will vary depending on where the gain is and how much signal is coming into the amp.

Well I would get a dvc4ohm and run that at 2ohms load on the amp, until i were to get a pair later on to run at 1ohms, if just going to run 1 sub only and wanting the most out of the amp, get the dvc2ohm to run at 1ohms load on the amp.Just my opinion.Nothing wrong with that amp, if you have it utilize it,if thats what you want, and can afford, get it:D
