Featured 2024 tacoma sub, 2 8's vs 1 10"???

Not looking for an extreme system, just want something somewhat impressive.
Not many options out there for sub enclosures for the new 24 redesigned tacoma.
Enclosure behind the seat is nolonger really an option, limited space, seatbelts, power window motor assy, etc...
So under the rear seat is the only option.
Ground shaker fabbed a decent enclosure & from the few folks / shops I spoke with seems like for the enclosure volume & truck cab config the 10" enclosure would be better than the 12" enclosure.
Both boxes have same volume, just larger speaker cut-out...
I just contemplating the 10" single box vs having a box fabbed from scratch for the same underseat area for 2 8" subs over a single 10"

Want it to sound great for rap, hip hop, but I truly listen to everything but everything isnt really a priority...
Seems like opinions are all over the place inregards to what sounds better a single 10 vs 2 8's....
I do understand the math of 2 8's have 16" of surface area vs a single 10" has 10.....
But I have zero experience of if thats really makes it better in the real world....

Having a shop fab an enclosure for dual 8" subs would cost a bit more than the groundshaker 10" $350
heres the link to the enclosure, thanks for the insight in setting me straight & helping me make sense of this before spending money....

Personally I'd go for two 8s. And your math is a little off. Surface area of a circle is pi*r². So for the 10, it's 5² x 3.14 which is 78"²and is of 100. Then there's excursion, but that's the basics of it.

I concur with chillin, 2 8s have more surface area but I also think 2 separate voice coils make "more" sound as opposed 2 voice coils in a shared motor.

How did you insert the exponents into the text?

That doesn't look easy to work with. Porting allows you to get "free" bass and contour the response curve a bit. Ported tends to work better for Rap & Hip Hop.
Wouldnt be the end of the world cutting a clean round port in the plastics to accommodate a port but dont think I want to start hacking a new $40k truck...
Bottom line, would I be happy with just a 10", the cheaper, non custom box route......
Nobody can answer that for me which is where im struggling, cant demo a build...
Sounds like you guys agree with what some stereo shops have stated that ill get more out of 2 8's

Other shops also stated the single 10 will also be sufficient & sound great...

Im on a budget & only looking to do this once....

Yes. I was temporarily using a JL 10w3v3 in 0.75 cubic foot sealed. Not alot of volume but it complimented the front stage really good. Lows were very present but a bit shy on the kicks. I like stronger bass but was very pleased with that single 10.

I get it. Looking at what you have going on under the seat (WTF Toyota), I'd probably go with the that ground shaker enclosure and the biggest sub you can fit. Looks like there is a 12" version of that box. If you can find a 12" that will fit in there and is comfortable with ~.95 cuft that's a simple solution. I think porting would be PITA for your situation.

Most San Diego Shops are claiming that they can get the 10 sounding better than the 12 in that box configuration....
Lots to think about & would be just nice to avoid the trail & error, get the most bank for the buck the first time around..

It's a tough depth to work with. JL TW and Kicker Comp RT are the only ones I found. Any 12 that works in ~1 cuft should be fine with the enclosure.

Ok guys, push me over the edge...
Been dragging my feet long enough & now GS has a sale....
24 tacoma 4 door..
I listen to all types of music but we build systems to sound impressive when it comes to hip hop, rap, etc...
This will be a sound quality system & will be running a dsp, not looking to shake the doors off the truck or people hearing me come from blocks away..
I recently heard the GS box with a 10tw3, wast very impressed but I question if the gain was turned down cuz mids & tweeters didnt have an amp source yet as controllers arent available.
So between the groundshaker box option for under my rear seat would most go for the sound quality of a 10tw3, or go all in & get the 12tw3 box option.
The box has plenty of airspace for the 12, .95 cf...

Push me over the edge with some reasoning, influence, etc, want to get this done...
Just worried the 12 might bring on all sorts of interior rattles as the entire interior of the truck is plastic.
Plan on sound deadening the doors & lay some on the backside of door panels also most likely.
Thanks!!!
