Hi, im semi new to the speaker world so bear with me. ive built a few setups but my never with what im wanting.

My problem is box size. I have a 96 ***** am. and im building a ported box for behind the rear seat before the hatch well. im trying to get an 18 in there, i can fit it, but i dont know how it would react to the box. when im done building it, if all goes to plan it will be about 3.5 ft^3 and the speaker is between an audiopipe 15 and a FI ssd 18. id get the FI in a heartbeat, but i dont know if it would work any good with only 3.5 ft in the box. any idea what i should do? could i use box stuffing or would that not work with the ports? the box itself is tight, so i cant make that any bigger, and it doesnt have to be ported, but id like it to be. Any 18"ers that will be happy ported with that small of a box? could i run that SSD sealed in that box? how much better would a ported one be?

Thanks, Mark

the ssd would work in that enclousre 3.5 net i seen em in small enclousures like that and they bang.. i got a fully loaded 18 btl in a 6 cube net and it wangs gets deep and sounds great but i also got it in a daily box right now... and ported would be better hands down specially since i heard the ssd is more leaned to spl then sq.. and 18 imo is better i like the sound more it moves more air and gets deeper and louder... surface area ftw //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

if u can do 6" aeros go for it, i couldnt cause my box isnt where i can have em that long... slot ftw they never fail. what do you mean bp power? like base power.. im guessing what kinda power ur gonna be using

idk, on the options for the sub it can get BP power, whatever it is for $40, also what difference does a flat wind coil make? if i had the 6" ports how long should they be and can i use PVC pipe bends?

bp power is an option that adds a different spider pack and a cooling option. Spider pack is slightly stiffer and the cooling thing directs the air under the dustcap around the coil to cool it.

It adds to the amount of wattage it can take safely...

i got a cheepo amp with 800RMS and 1600 peak (MA audio), ill be running that until i get some money to get something with about 1000-1500. Will the PVC pipe work, ill still have a flared end, but i was gonna make the port sorta wind in the box so it will fit it all. how long should they be?

Is 3.5 cubes really enough ported for an 18? Noting that you will need quite a bit of port tubing and each of which would be taking away more and more area of internal volume of the box.

but yes pvc pipe will work as a port. How long they are depends on the size you get. The size you get depends on the square inches of port your sub needs so it doesn't have too much port velocity.

is one port enough? sorry, im pretty new to building my own box, the other 2 i installed i used a pre built one.

Could i have the ports coming outside of the box for a few inches? will that add to the size of the box?
