18 vs 15 and some other questions

A 15" Q is what you need to get. Get yourself a 15" Q and port it to about 10Hz under the RF of the hatch and 10Hz above the RF of the sub. You'll have a decent response from it.

You are thinkin in terms of 18's are the loudest, deepest, and a good overall sub setup for a 1 sub sound stage.

You miss the fact that if you have a shitty box you are defeating the purpose of an 18". A 10 can go just as low and loud as a **** 18 with the right box.

I would go with a 15" Q on a TRA1000.2 SoundStream. That would have a hell of a natural bass response with the right box. It will be plenty loud.

I think u wrote 2 18's in an acoustic suspension box or something. You miss the fact that 2 18's don't have the low end extension a single 15 in a bass reflex would have. The 2 18's are limited because the acoustic suspension box design colors the sound more than the bass reflex because more of the rear phase is radiating through the cone. It will indeed sound shittier also because it won't hit all the notes the 15 would.

The 15" in a bass reflex is the best bet. It is less restricted in a box of this design and will have a better overall response curve.

i got 4.6 cubes out of my 87 ***** am, for 2 rl-p 12, ported. used 2 4 inch aero ports, firing forward, with the 12's at the rear angled toward the back. this was all mdf though, i didnt feel like building into the smallest part at the bottom of the well like i did with my last box but theres another cubic foot down there.

i'd venture to say you could safely get 6 cubes out of that back there, you'd have to build a section to come forward to the back of your back seats, on the decklid. mine was about 7 inches high, about an inch higher than the tops of the back seats. you'd be a little higher with 6 inch aeros, but you may be able to build it flat in the rear also and have the ports extend from there to the bottom part of the well, firing up.

ok sounds good, but what is a Q, RF, and how do i port it to 10hz?
Q is the model of sub. The Fi Car Audio Q. The RF is Resontant Frequency. Not exactly sure how you find that for the vehicle. Find the vehicle's resonant frequency and port he box to 10 Hz below that.
