15 Alpine type X or 3 JL12w3's

I recently had a ported enclosure built for my 3 JL12w3v2 D6 @ 5.3 cu. tuned to around 33 hz, and was hoping to get more SPL out of them. Was using a sealed 1.26 cu separated per. Ported I can tell some difference but is kinda sloppy for me. Low notes don't sound as well. Was wandering if my 1 15 Alpine Type R dual 4 would be as loud or louder? I would be pushing it with a PG Xenon 1200.1 that I finally received from being warranteed. I had the Type R running off a generic 1000 watt amp that I'm sure was waaaay overrated, but it was fairly loud. It is in a ported prefab box that supposedly are made specifically for that application. Couldn't tell you how much space and what is tuned too though. Then again, I have a trunk car. Am just using for DD.

there is no such thing as a prefab made for the application. I ran 1 15" type-r in a taurus and was pulling a 149.5 I was also sending it 3.2kw....

You were running 1 Type R 15 w/ 3.2kw?......And I was worried bout just sending it 1200! How did you get that out of a trunk car? Not knocking you, just want some insight. Drive a Caprice myself.

Yeah..i have 3 w6s d6's but i have like the man said 2 cubes for sub..mine is about 6.5 cubes total ported...where will your subs be firing?? up or toward back?...it might be different for a car then with my setup...my box is about 38x19x18....ot sure if you can fit 6.5 cubes in that trunk..well it is a caprice...you might...might wanna watch this tread see what others think...but the cubes is right more than 2 cubes for sub...mine are tuned to 27hz like JL says...not sure about w3 i think 32 to 34.

I told the guy that built the box for me that the 12W3's needed 2.25 each ported. Have plenty of trunk room. Enclosure takes about half. He tried telling me he had a program that takes into account the mechanical and electrical Q and other specs into some formula that would be optimal. I know he competed nationally a few years back and was highly recommended in my area. I set my gains with a DMM and have a lil better output and somewhat tighter bass. Output seems to peak around 55-58hz. So, do you think he was building box geared more towards competition? Subs and port are rear facing, with enclosure paneled in. Anyways am figuring I'm atleast hitting 140's. Going to get it on his TL. Will have pics to come. I know trunk cars are SPL limited. Is there other Caprice owners out there that may have some input ?

well..yeah..my box is 6.65 cubes..for my 3 12's but then again mine are w6s old schools looks just like w3s...my subs are facing up and ported firing twd rear of my suv...i had mine hooked up to TL and did 140's...maybe a trunk might be louder not sure about air space and all that...i am mostly into SUVs...but i see no reason why you want hit 140's with basically the subs subs as me...mine do have a different motor structure and magnet size...but w3 are effiecient subs...with cars i would have subs facing rear with port on the side just one..i have seen pics of this kinda install...[]000...like that..lol...tune it to what JL says...i tuned according to JL and and the box size to JL specs and mine sounds great....i know you dont wanna build like 3 or 4 boxes and see which sounds best...ask around with someone that has 3 w3s 12's in a trunk see what they did.
