12gauge big enough for 500 watts?

You're right...I'm running a 25A fuse for my radios on 12awg...but that amp requires more, because it has 50A worth of fuses.

Memphis 16-MC500D

RMS Power 4ohm 250x1

RMS Power 2ohm 500x1

THD 4ohm 0.50%

THD 2ohm 0.75%

S/N Ratio >80db

Variable Low-Pass Filter 50-250Hz

Variable Subsonic Filter 20-50Hz

Filter Slopes 18db

Input Sensitivity 250mV-5V

Input Impendance 22kohms

Frequency Response +/- 1db 10Hz-650KHz

Fuse Rating 25A*2

Personally I wouldn't reccomend anything below 4 guage for a 500 rms amp. Sure smaller wire can handle more power at short distances but whats more important spending a few extra bucks on wire or having you car on fire? Don't forget picture's lol.

oops, sorry guys. i guess i wasn't specific enough in my question. i meant to say speaker wire. i wasn't sure if 12 gauge speaker wire was large enough. i have 4 gauge running to the amp. sorry for the confusion.

i got a 50a fuse on a 12ft 8ga. line now.thinking of adding another 30a to tie into the 8ga line.Remember i dont max them out.so ill be using 65a max 95% of the time....estimating.....
were you up late last night studying car audio in hopes of being a more helpful and productive profilepower //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

12 guage is fine. it's actually more then enough.

i'm sure a 12g wire can handle a 25a fuse....a 8 ga. wire can handle a 50a-60a fuse....especially if shorter wire.also if your wire is under 4 ft., 12g can handle 25a fuse ez all day......
thats funny i seen a rockford 700 literally melt a 10 gauge wire catching some of the carpet on fire as well but oh well lol its just good sense to protect up rated power.

peaking..means the max watts...not average....when you run every amp you arent drawing its max current at half volume...can u understand??????
No peak means If struck by lightning. There is nothing to understand. Do not go be peak ratings. There garbage. Can you understand...laughs..

12ga. laughss i wouldnt waste my time but continious the answer is no!..peak maybe not for along time thou.be a big boy go 10 ga. minium....
Peak maybe? your an idiot. There is no such thing as peak. Can you understand yet.
