10s vs 12s for SQ

Does it take more power to run 12s and get better SQ, than it does 10s? Looking at going with the Blaupunkt Overdrive series, and was going to go with 10s because I always thought they sounded crisper and cleaner than 12s, but am told 12s can sound just as good. What does it take to make 12s sound as good as 10s?

Car is a 97 Subaru Outback Sport (wagon), enclosure will probably be sealed because I don't know anything about tuning a ported box, and the amp will most likely be a Phoenix Gold Xenon 200.4

The size of the driver does not effect the SQ. It is all in the install. So for the most part, the box will determine most of the SQ part of the install.

a 8", 10", 12", 15" will not play any lower or sound cleaner due to driver size.

To me the differnce between 10's and 12's is your own personal prefernce. From my experience 10's in a sealed box have a little more Punch, but they still can carry some low bass. 12's in a sealed box tend to get a little lower. But you could port 2 10's and make them sound crazy loud and they could get really low too. I never really had any Blaupunkt drivers so i cant tell you how they would perform, this statement is just from my experience with my own eqipment.

No because ive heard subs with 250 watts sound better than subs with 900 watts on them, as tiger said its all install dependent.
Not true. My 1200+ watt sub right now sounds better than any other lower wattage driver I have used. So power will not effect the SQ. The drivers build and install is correct.

But what driver are you using? Audiobahn claims some of there drivers are all up in the 1000 watt rms range, and ive heard audiobahns on 1000 watts, and ive also heard some old rockford fosgate he 12's with only 250 watts, and the rockfords out performed them. Now i know a W7 or XXX will sound great, but these are high end drivers, im talking about middle to low end drivers with outragously high RMS ex..Audiobahn

Maybe not sound cleaner, but a larger driver will get lower than an identical driver in a smaller size, if you keep all other factors constant.

That's completely false.

This is only because the HE is either a.) a better driver or b.) the install on the HE was better.

When it comes to SQ the amount of power is not a factor.
