03 Silverado head unit question

Hey, I'm completely new to car audio and was all set to go get a new deck today. I went to BestBuy to pick up this:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7675615&type=product&productCategoryId=cat03066&id=1134702498241

Obviously I needed the mounting kit for the car, about $20, no problem. The guy that was helping me told me that I also needed a $20 harness, again no problem. He then came back 10 minutes later and told me that the 03 and later Silverado's required a special $120 harness so that installing the new unit would not keep the power locks and dome lights from working. Is this the case? And if it is, can I get them cheaper somewhere else?

Please let me know if you need any more information.

Thanks!

well i had a 02 chevy duramax and i didnt need a special wireing kit but i dont know why the power locks and dome light would have anything to do with the deck. from experience i think most people that work for best buy in the auto section dont know what they are doing and just want your money. i would put the $20 wires in and see what happens.

The 03 full-size trucks and SUVs went to a data-bus integrated radio, like many other newer GMs. The radio generates all audible warning chimes, and is controlled by the vehicle's computer data bus. That means there's no key-switched accessory wire behind the radio.

The expensive harness takes the radio's place in the data bus and generates the warning chimes. It also provides a data-bus controlled accessory output that turns your new radio on and off just like the factory one.

If you elect to use the basic harness, you will lose your door chime, lights-left-on chime, etc. Also, you will need to run a wire to a key-switched power source for your head unit's accessory connection. Your power locks, dome light and airbag system will NOT be affected either way.
