The 03 full-size trucks and SUVs went to a data-bus integrated radio, like many other newer GMs. The radio generates all audible warning chimes, and is controlled by the vehicle's computer data bus. That means there's no key-switched accessory wire behind the radio. The expensive harness takes the radio's place in the data bus and generates the warning chimes. It also provides a data-bus controlled accessory output that turns your new radio on and off just like the factory one. If you elect to use the basic harness, you will lose your door chime, lights-left-on chime, etc. Also, you will need to run a wire to a key-switched power source for your head unit's accessory connection. Your power locks, dome light and airbag system will NOT be affected either way.
