Every eclipse I have owned and my 8250 have always been set flat. They have sounded great just like that. IMO, not having to tweak a deck for days to get it to sound good DOES mean something.

I am not a believer in "more features MUST mean better." If, for example, it takes all those features to get a deck to sound decent, you have a problem. I have a bare bones 8250 and love it. If I need more flexibility, I can get an xover/eq, etc, but it sounds great as is.

My 8250 is brushed aluminum. I wish it was black, but when a deck sounds this good, I don't care :O)

I think Pioneer makes good stuff, but overall, for sq, I would take Eclipse. That said, to compare 2 specific models, you need to test both, side by side and see what YOUR ears tell you.

Everybody has to prioritize what is most important to them. I don't prioritize looks. If deck A sounds better than deck B, but deck B looks better, I buy deck A.

IMO, Eclipse makes the best sounding mass marketed decks available. I have owned clarion, pioneer, alpine, kenwood and 4 eclipses. I loved the eclipses the most and they were the best sounding decks I had owned until I picked up the 8250.

Maybe the ONLY aftermarket deck I have ever owned that had better reception than stock is my 8250. I have owned several Eclipses, and I thought the reception was fine, but do people really listen to am/fm any more? I only listen to satellite and cd now.
