Don't set your gains using 0db test tones. It isn't realistic for normal music. Just use your ears and common sense, has never failed me.

If you are used to the output of ported DDs, I don't know if the ME is the sub for you. I would put it in a big sealed box, throw some good power at it, and enjoy the SQL. When I spoke with the engineers at Oz, they recommended 1.7 cu ft sealed per sub.

The ME is a sickk sub. I had one in a 1.5 cu ft sealed box and it sounded oh so sexy. I wouldn't mess with it ported. Don't worry about the lows, it has plenty to offer.

I can't help but feel like I got PWNED by buying the old Mag. All I really wanted was a strong sealed box SQ woofer with balls. I spent $450 on a Mag hoping it would fit that bill, and what I ended up with was a power hungry ~50hz F3 driver that couldn't hit the lows in my car. I wish I could...

The new Mag kind of feels like what the Brahma MKIV should have been. Wish I could trade my current gen Mag for one, I have no use for its loud ported wonders and don't particularly enjoy its high F3 sealed box experience.

Sounds to me like you had a leak in the smaller sealed box that you built...

They both seem like good sealed box woofers that will get loww. Low FS, semi high Qts. The second one is more linear and is slightly more suited to ported boxes, so I chose it.

They will handle it perfectly fine, I had a Tantrum 1200.1 on mine for over a year and it never broke a sweat...

The SE just *might* get louder than the ME ported, but since you are comparing them sealed.. its more like: LOUD: ME > SE LOW: ME > SE
