Finally, the Jeep JL build

Got a little more done on the box. All the seams filled and sealed.

Here's the back of the port, and next the front.

Attaching the back

Cut the front panel out

27044

Cut the sub holes, I broke my circle jig and didn't feel like making another, so these are just freehand cuts, not perfect.

Initially I planned to use inserts and screws, however there isn't enough room to install inserts here, so they are getting bolted down.

Front will be removable and gaskets

After 3 months I got off my ass and made progress. Box is half ass finished. Just some bed liner, no facia or grills yet. Made some L brackets out of 1/4 inch cold rolled steel and bolted it to the tailgate. It's secure, but I need to make upper brackets. For now a ratchet strap holds it fine.

Then I decided I didn't like my amp placement. They were in view, and wires ran all over for the 3 amps. I pulled and gutted the factory sub enclosure. It's not super pretty with the panel off, but I managed to get all of my amps, LOC, and distro blocks to fit inside the enclosure. I ran a new power wire, 1/0 OFC from the battery, under the vehicle and then into the enclosure via the tail light grommet. The only wires running through the door sil panels now are RCAs and speaker wire. There's a huge grill for amp cooling, and it's super clean with the panel installed. Very happy with this setup.

All in all, I'm much happier. No visible wiring or amps, I can fold the rear seats, and these JLs hit hard. Chest pressure, hair standing up, shook my glasses off the dash hard. For 2 slim 400 watt slim subs, I'm incredibly impressed. They are pricey, but I just don't think you can beat them in a slim sub. I promise you wouldn't know they are slims.

From what I've seen, I'm impressed by these woofers as well. Can we do a throw away 4th order to see if these subs will work in one? haha 🤓

They, by far, look like the best shallow mount subs I've ever seen.

I wouldn't be entirely against that lol

Just lmk!

If it's on the house, it's gonna be some type of horn.

I'm not against that either, I just assumed when you said throw away 4th to see if they would work you wanted to do it for science. I'm alright spending for the materials to get you feed back, but thats really all it would be, I'm not necessarily looking to give up the cargo space to actually run a 4th permanently

For sure. Just lmk. Not promising anything for certain, it just depends on you somewhat too, so no worries, just lmk. Just for fun.

May want to consider upgrading the tailgate hinges to the Mopar/Teraflex HD model. ??
