Post pics/info of your first stereo system

Circa 2000/2001 mine was 2 12” Orion xtr3 I believe single 4 ohm but don’t really remember powered by a kicker ix402. Unknown model kenwood CD player from circuit city! And a whopping 8 gauge streetwires amp kit. Yes the box was huge and wrapped in tweed and had a hing on it to hide things a 16 yr old would want to hide lol. And I advertised that I had a system to all the thieves on my back window

I have NO pics, it was in 1977! I bought my first car, a 1969 VW Beetle from a friend of mine in high school. And I bought a Pioneer AM/FM Cassette head unit and a Kenwood 30WPC booster 5 band equalizer and I built two Bug-shaped speaker cabinets for behind the rear seat (the luggage compartment!) and put 8" coaxial Bozak aluminum cone speakers in it and IT ROCKED! I could even take the speakers out of the car and they were on 20 ft wires!

John Kuthe...

2 mtx thunder 2000 15's with a tape deck and some kind of garbage amp, think it was a "Legacy".  Prob put out like 75 watts x2.

Later got 4 kicker l5 12's on 2 lightning 1k watt amps.

The $25 hifonics 12 which they still sell to this day and I still think is a pretty amazing value in a prefab ported box on a lightning audio amp, it was really small and i think 50-100 rms.

I used 4 gauge CCA for the power wire and 18 gauge speaker wire for the ground. It did catch fire.

No head unit instead I had an MP3 player running into a Kenwood amp I turned the entire thing on with a white home light switch

No fuses and the Kenwood amp had none of the hardware for the inputs so the wires were jammed in and taped

You was living ghetto fab

I had an S-10 with two kicker 15s. The front had Boston acoustic 4x6 plates and the rear had Boston 6x9s in a cheesy bit passable rear mdf plate I hacked up to fit over the 5x7 hole.  The front and rear were on a sound stream reference 604 and the kickers ran on an Alpine V12 two channel bridged. My next S-10 had a slight update with subs and amps. Used a Sony CDX-C90 with Orion HCCA 225s for the mids and highs and an MTX thunder 2300x to power Boston pro subs.   I probably still carry debt from that Sony deck, it was literally a months pay at the time. Priorities.

As as an afterthought, I remember burning through alternators at an alarming rate since they couldn’t keep up. Thank goodness for parts warranties.

I had a 95 4dr s10 blazer. When I got it it was stock everything but someone added a pioneer 6 disc changer in the back. And yes I used that mofo lol.

Bout 6 months later I changed the radio out for a JVC CD player with 3 sets of 4v preouts. 2 pair of pioneer D series 6.75 coax, and a Rockford 300/4 punch. The one with the chrome covers lol.

Then about 2-3 months later my buddy was selling a kenwood 1801D and 2 L5 15s in a premade box. Scooped that up, while installing it all managed to fry the amp LOL. Picked up a cheap boss and ran it till I blew the subs and amp.

That blazer saw no less than 30 different head units. Probably 25-30 different sub setups, and atleast 20 different amps. But the Rockford punch and 4 pioneer coax lasted the life of the blazer. Now those pioneer coax are in our ski boat. Rockford amp is dead. Not bad considering those speakers saw 3 different vehicles and a boat, and are 14-15 years old lol

my first system was a pair of jbl 800gti's ran off a A/D/S/ PQ20.2 and a 642ix x-over from a pioneer premier tape deck with a whopping 0.5 volts pre out. canton 5.25 mids running full range. sounded like crap because of my lack of tweets and idiot level knowledge. oh it was in an 86 accord sedan

84 Monte Carlo pioneer tape deck pioneer 2 channel amp gm100 bridged  (think it did 160 watts) to a orion xtr 10 6th order. Kenwood 2 channel amp 30 watts to Kenwood coaxial front and rear. 3.5 in the front 4x6 in the rear. Stock speaker size for That car lol. That was 1991.

A friends dad gave me an ads 3 amp plate system and at that time 02/03 16/17 yrs old I was like this is old I don’t want this and I ended up throwing it away!

Lets see. Back in 1990, had a 1978 cutlass. system consisted of a Pioneer Supertuner III cassette player, Rockford fosgate 12's in a Rockford prefab called " The Box that Rocks".  It  had ports and 4 tweeters in the box. And a Unic 2 channel amp. Didn't kniow anything about bridging an amp back then.

Oh yeah, my power wire more than likely consisted of speaker wire, lol. I remember grounding the amp to a screw in the door jam.

If I knew then what I know now I’d been a boy genius
fair point. i traded a McIntosh amp that i got from a restaurant that i had zero use for, for the A/D/S/ which i did have a use for LoL it was a monstrous thing and im sure the guy i traded it to made a pretty penny off it. Like what you said, if i only knew then what i know now....
