I cant make a decision of where to start. I have 1.5^3(MAX). No more then 7" mounting depth(MAX). I have 1000 watts rms. I want to get as much SQL as possible. Subs I was considering; FIQ, W6v2, IDQ, Boston G5, Diamond Audio D6.

12" rules out the W6(mounting depth), FIQ(ported), and Boston G5(ported)//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

1 10" they all would work ported.

2 10" Sealed they all work

2 10" ported the W6 is the only one that works with two 3" ports on each side.

For reference I put 1 12W6 version 1 in the truck ported at 1.5^3 and it didn't get loud enough until I pushed it too hard (distortion, sounded great at low levels though)//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif.

Thanks!

Plus Kicker brought back the solo classics this year! The SQ on the original solo-barics was pretty good. I had a single 12 that really slammed for a sealed enclosure sub from 1997 - 1999.

Also, you would be shocked to see what size box a 12w6v1 really needs to sound good in. Let me just say see what WinISD or Bass Box pro suggests for a high fidelity enclosure.... JL Audio's recommendation gets you a great response.... at 50 Hz:laugh:

UMMMMM WOW! I just did the online AJ Designer for the 12W6v1 and it calls for

5^3 for 1 12W6 vented tuned to 21 HZ, and 2.9^3 sealed.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif Also the 12W6 has a sutabilty factoer of close to 40. So I guess sealed.

I did the online AJ Designer for the 10W6v2 based on manufactures specs and it calls for a 1.2^3 box tuned to 29 hz. This sound right?
Unfortunately, that is the correct size to eliminate that 50 Hz spike that JL Audio likes to build into all of their "recommended" enclosures. If you went with their 10w6v2 recommendation of .75 cubic feet net tuned to their (ETA JL Audio's) port specifications, I would be willing to bet money that you would be extremely disappointed!

Could someone that has a good box builder program run the maunufactures specs and confirm my findings?

10" subs in vented enclousers

Daimond Audio 10" D6

Suitability factor=80

Vb=0.5^3

Fb=40hz

JL 10w6v2

Suitability factor=60

Vb=1.2^3

Fb=29hz

IDQ V3

Suitability factor=40

Vb=2.2^3

Fb=22hz

If you want sql, don't get the g5. But for a siingle 10" it would be really loud because of the efficiency.

They still sound ok.

Try it

For best sql and very cheep with little mounting debth, I would maybe go with a rockford p3 or the re slimerrrs. ;]

Can you elaborate on ideal box sizes for the w6?

Ive run a 12 at spec, and at 3.5 both ported, and it sounded much better at 3.5.

Im doing a new box soon for 2 13w6 and have decided on 5.5 cubes tuned to 30.

Any thoughts on that?

OP: JL has some flat subs out that may suit you.

I had a 10'' BL in 1.5 off 1000w and it got pretty loud for a single 10'' and sounded way better than I was expecting it to. They are .25'' shallower than the Q and don't have a pole vent so you don't have to worry about allowing much space behind the motor.

You know whatever winisd tells you is useless once you put the sub in a vehicle right?

JL Audio's recommended enclosures are to make their subs play LOUD in the vehicle. Many of their recommended enclosures have a +3 dB or greater spike in the 50 Hz range and drop like a rock going higher and lower than that.

I used to think that JL Audio subwoofers sounded like *** until someone suggested that I give WinISD a try to even out the frequency response.

I am lazy right now and don't feel like keying in the TS parameters to model a 13w6v2, but I would say that it should sound better in a larger enclosure versus going with JL Audio's wang hard @ 50Hz 1.875 cubic foot recommended enclosure.

I am about to pull the 10w3v2s out of my Civic and I was thinking of making a home stereo setup out of them. Right now it is looking like I need to put them each in 3.3 cubic feet and tune around 30 Hz. The only problem is I want to be different than everyone else with running a home setup and I can't decide if I want to use leftover car stuff OR pro audio drivers with some DJ amplifiers and an electronic crossover.....

For right now I settled on 1 10" sub ported to 32hz in 1.3^3(most of the 10's I am going to try will work in this). Today I bought a 10w6v2, and a 10w3v3 to try out. Next week I am going to get the FIQ, and probably the DA D6 or the IDQ.

FYI I got a 10w6v2 in the JL H.O box new from my dealer for $299(less then I could buy w/o the box) and the 10w3 for $105. They are cleaning out inventory. Anyways I threw the 10w6 w/ H.O. box in the back seat of my truck and WOW!. Ive never heard a 10" single sub get that loud and clean:eek:. Simply blows away the 12W6v1 I had in a 1.5^3 ported.

Yep, but do you want to start out with a +6dB spike @ 50Hz since many vehicles resonate at close to that point?

I have built enclosures to manufacturer's specifications and they have sounded like garbage. Sometimes the subwoofers sound better in a smaller enclosure, other times I have done better off by going with a larger enclosure. Getting the enclosure matched to the vehicle has always been the "fun" part of car audio.

Of course it blows my mind that a couple of the local custom shops have gone to pre-fab solutions when selling subwoofers over custom building enclosures. Management says it takes too long to build enclosures, yet the custom shop is full of installers and sales associates just standing around:confused: When I worked part-time at a custom shop in the 90s, guess what we did when things were slow? We built enclosures for the hot vehicles at that time. I built a ton of Nissan and Chevy S10 enclosures during that low rider period:)
