XXX sub / FI Recone Felt Pad Melting? Pictures Inside

Well I decided to take my subwoofer out. Wondering why it kept smelling like voice coil every time I'd beat it on some 30hz songs like Beats 4 My Van. It's an 18" RE XXX / FI Recone. The tinsel leads have been cut and they are fairly short. I am only running the IA 20.1 @ 2ohms 900wrms. I'd beat it on Beats 4 my Van for a fair short of time and the voice coils would HEAT UP FAST and start smelling within like a minute. Never did this befor with my 12" XXX beating. Here are what the felt pads looks like, it looks like this is what making the smell but I'm not positive.

you could be clipping the crap out of that amp

what is your gain set at?

That is what it is there for, to be damaged rather than the cone.

That wouldn't cause a coil burning smell though, so turn the **** gain down.

Uhh, the gain IS down. IA 20.1 @ 2ohms @ 900wrms set with DMM. I should be having it at 0.5ohms @ XXXX WRMS. And NO i'm not getting voltage dips below 13 no more. I have stock elect, with a HC2400 in the rear.

im guessing because its wired @ 2 ohms your not gettin a ton of power out of it which is causing you to turn your volume knob up higher than you normally would driving the amp into clipping, but i could be wrong

I have it set with DMM. At a volume 25. That's the max I'd ever turn it up. I don't go above to what I had it set at.

Are you positive you wired it to 2 ohms?

It happens w/tha Fi recones & original parts.. whatever. I see it all tha time.
