wtf happened to my car??

my lights dimm when i start my truck...? from what snoop said it sounded like a bad thing
no thats actually good, that means there is a load on the electrical system, thats exactly what its supposed to do //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

To the original poster, it sounds like your starter is indeed dead, one final test to do is to bypass the starter solenoid. I warn you, if you do this you'll see sparks and it might scare you, but its quite harmless. what you want to do is take a peice of large gauge wire (4 gauge or larger) and touch the positive of the battery to the positive terminal on the starter motor itself. if you hear it spin when you do this, your starter works and you need to consider replacing your starter solenoid or you need to look at your positive connection to your starter again. cause thats about all it can be at this point.

i'll try that, how long do starters usually last anyway? 5 years max?

this morning my battery voltage read 11.8 volts, and i found where the starter is, i just followed the positive and negative wires from the battery and found where it is, i'm gonna replace my battery as well since it's 4 years old anyway. ****in car

i have 130,000 on mine, i got it with 65000 back in april of 2004 and this is the only thing that has gone bad with it so far...starter bein dead and battery failing. but it's a good car.

It is the starter. The solenoid is working as it is supposed to, but the conductors that the solenoid touches when it comes out (clicks) are worn. Happened to my acura. Tear down the starter, take the copper pieces behind the solenoid to a starter/alternator shop and tell em you need em, fast. lol. Its a simple fix really.

so it's not gonna cost an arm and a leg to fix?
