WTF happened to my battery????

some how something bridged the power and the ground terminals, a wire or something of that nature. or your power is touching the body of your car(a short in the power) which would pretty much do the same thing as if you were to connect the power and the ground wires.

so one of 3 things is happening: 1 you have a short in your power wire, 2 you have a short or a loose ground wire, 3 something moved or shifted so that the positive and the negitive terminals touched.

did you have the battery tied down? because if you didnt the battery may have moved so the positive or both posts touched your car body, which would ground your positive and fry your battery

I have no idea why it worked one time and then didn't the next, what I can say is that there are alot of things you can do wrong and get away with most of the time, like smoking while refueling the car or banging a chick without a condom most times you can get away with it but sooner or later-BAM you're fooked!

Now there are two ways of adding 2 batterys-

1- You parrellel a second battery (same size/type/condition) to your original under the hood. To hook the second battery up you connect the + of one to the positive of the other and the same for the ground,- note- you do not ground the second battery to the chassis, you need to connect the terminals to the original battery.

This method creates one big battery for your entire electrical system like you would see in a diesle pickup truck. The second battery is just an extention of the first.

2- In the isolator set up you have two seperate electrical systems sharing one charging source, the battery under the hood handles all the stock electrical duties while the battery in the trunk runs the stereo, for this set up each battery gets a seperate ground and the positive terminals connect to the isolater instead of to the other battery.

In short

#1 creates one big battery for the entire system.

#2 creates two seperate electrical systems.

Heres is an excellent how to guide for connecting multiple batterys in a car.

It gives full instructions and talks about the pro's and cons of either setup.

this is ok but there are many people that use method 2 and dont use an isolator.... I understand the purpose of the isolator is to prevent the 1st battery from draining the second battery.

FYI....

I was told by optima that the yellow tops cant handle a large load on the side terminals.

They were really nasty to me and told me that this wasnt covered under the warranty. I was very disappointed by their reaction and I contacted the public relations director about all this. He told me that he was going to contact the cheif engineer about this and have him call me to answer my specific questions about the battery.
