don't forget OP, you got way more into that 15 with initial cost, recone, box and fiber glass to trade straight up for an 18 that needs a new box which is more to invest in while your buddy just plugs and plays with your old 15

Thing that ***** is you either need to run it at .5 or 2 ohms and finding a amp that puts out 2-2.5k @ 2 ohm can get expensive. You might be able to find something decent used but still gonna cost.
