Wiring Help with Ohms and Dvc subs!!!!

Yes I am a noob, but cant figure this out...Alright guys, here is my question. I have 2 JL 10w3v2 subs, one is a dual 4 ohm and the other is a dual 2 ohm. Can I put these subs together in the same box off the same amp??? I don't know much about ohms and wiring DVC subs. What I have now is a sony 1200 watt xplod amp pushing 2 old school round Kicker solobaric 10's. They just arent loud enough for me, so I got these 2 JL's but they have different ohm ratings. The rest of the system is pretty good, I think. Pioneer deck, MTX 4 channel with 45rms going to 4 infinity reference series 6x8's in a 2005 ford supercrew f150. The box is 3/4 MDF with .89 per side, sealed. PLEASE HELP ME FIGURE OUT THESE SUBS!!! ANY HELP OR SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREAT. Thanks guys.

Maybe you should read before you answer...the answer to my question is nowhere in that post, and if it is then please point it out to me. As I said, they are 2 different subs one 2ohm dvc and one 4 ohm dvc, all those diagrams are assuming the subs have the same ohms per coil. Can anyone help???? Thanks.

Let me preface my post by saying //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/bigwave.gif.16324171cad2db62cf4f16568b038478.gif Welcome to the forum! Here's hoping you enjoy your stay here. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Your Dual 4 Ohm sub can be wired independently to a 2 Ohm or an 8 Ohm load.

Your Dual 2 Ohm sub can be wired independently to a 4 Ohm or a 1 Ohm load.

Together they can be wired to a 1.5 Ohm load, a 3 Ohm load, a 4.5 Ohm load, or a 6 Ohm load (providing my math isn't faulty this morning)

Which Sony amp exactly is it that you're running? Is it a monoblock? A 2 channel?

Technically you can run both subs together but as they cannot be wired to the same nominal impedence you won't be feeding them the same amount of power simultaneously.

Think of Ohm resistance like a defensive line on a ballteam. Your amp puts out 'X' amount of power. When it encounters a 4 Ohm load (or 4 defensive linemen) then 'Y' amount of power gets through to the sub. If it encounters a 2 Ohm load (or 2 defensive linemen) then more power will get through because it meets with half the resistance trying to keep it out. When it encounters an 8 Ohm load less power will make it through to the sub because there is a larger resisting force trying to keep it away.

So - the easy answer to your question is Yes, it can be done ~ but the results won't be optimal.

Thanks Prowler, that's an answer I can actually get something out of. Now, to take it a little deeper, here are the specs on the amp:

MODEL: SONY XM2200GTX

# 600 watts x 2 channels max

# 200 watts RMS x 2 @ 4 ohms

# 250 watts RMS x 2 @ 2 ohms

# 500 watts RMS x 1 @ 4 ohm

So, based on the above specs, what would be the best wiring configuration for this amp and the 2 different ohm subs that I have? Would I be better off to get rid of one of the subs and buy two that are the same? If so, what is the best setup for this amp and 2 10" subs. I am limited to 2 10's because thats all I have room for. My system consists of a pioneer headunit, a mtx 50x4 going to 4 infinity reference 6x8's and the sub set up we are discussing here. Its in a 05 f150 supercrew, right now I have 2 old school kicker solobaric 10's (the round ones) but they arent loud enough so I got the JL's.

On last question, would it be possible to go to like radio shack and add a 2 ohm resistor to the each of the voice coils on the 2 ohm sub so that, technically it would also be a 4ohm sub or is that not possible?

MANY THANKS!!!
