Wire Gauge Setup

How am I going to wire this? I'm not sure on how I want to do it. I'll require two 4 awg for each amplifier, and some 12awg (at least) for the EQ, line driver, and HU. I was planning on running 1/0awg, but this only splits into two 4 awg which would only cover my amplifiers. Should I (a) Run 0/0 (Egad!) or (b) run the 0/1 awg along with a 4awg? Or another option?

You can run 0/0 guage if you are concerned but 1/0 guage is plenty thick. All you need is a distribution block with like two four guage out puts and one or two 8 guage outputs, then you can put two or three of the other things on it. Or you could just get a dist. block that has three 4 guage out puts and get a second dist. block to dish it out smaller.

ahhh voila! Thanks guys. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Where sells monster cable? I don't want to go through the hassle of scanning my drivers license and all that crap for The Zeb.

hmm im not really familiar with the alberta area of canada, but um alot of car audio stores, especially big chains that carry home audio and car audio carry monster cable. The only thing is since it kind of a high end peace, youll only find it at more high end stores. You could possibly get these stores to order it for you or maybe order from monster cable direct. Here is the product if you are interested:

I hope that works

Iordered my stuff directly from monster cable and had to wait 3 weeks but they got it all right and I ordered a shit load of stuff but it was all worth it and does a great job.

Later,

Bobby

why do you have 2 of those when you only have a 1000 watt and 600? watt amp?

and how do you know what gauge you need?

one distributes the positive and one the negative. I have 1/0 running to caps then to the distribution blocks then to the amps. Thus i have 2 of them heh.

Ok well those amps put out way more than they are rated. The 1001 has benched over 2500 before (at .5 ohm) and im sure the 604 is atleast 700 or 800 watts but at any rate basically according to xtant there should be 1/0 wire for the 1001 regardless (it freaking has 1/0 connections on the amp . . .crazy s**t) I figured 1/0 may be a little over kill but whatever, I could afford it and having bigger wire never hurt anything, heh except the alternator maybe. At any rate you can figure out what wire size you need based on the amps(power number, not the number of amplifiers, amps you know not amplifiers:)) your running and how long the wire is.

oh, ok

I read somewhere you should upgrade the wire from your alt to your battery if you're using a low gauge like 1/0

anyone know anything about this?

It should be based on the amount of amps the alternator is set at. If you choose to upgrade your alternator you probably will need to also upgrade the wiring to your alternator. Most cars come factory with 4 guage I believe to the alternator. 4 gauge is rated up to 180 amp over that short of a distance so it should be more than enough for factory alternator regardless of the amount of current your system is drawing.
