Your right it will allow him to run longer with the car off. This is a line that everyone in any shop uses, but lets look at the root word isolate. To keep one thing independent from another. Lets ask ourselves why does the car run longer when off? The car draws current itself obviously, and so does the system. If these are kept independent from each other the stereo system and the neons will not effect the car, nor car effect the stereo. With the car off, the factory batt is only running the cars functions and will not drain as fast. Where the Optima will be only running the stereos functions, not the cars functions. This will allow for longer play time with car off, which is nice at times. Plus if your factory batt goes dead you always have a jump right under the hood. You can pick up a 120A isoloator from Pep Boys. The isolator is $50. This seems cheap! The parent company purchased the isolator from Western Regulator who makes Pheonix Gold alternators, so yes it is a good isolator. A yellow top shold run around $175 or so. Your using digital amps you will not need much more power. I have done this set up in many cars at it works quite well. If you never want to worry about power again, unless your doing something huge, go purchase a Allumapro 5 farad cap. Phenoix Gold's cap is the same. They purchased the plans from Allumapro. These caps are not electrolitic and have tons of power. In conclusion, yes you will have longer play time with car off, but your stereo will be isolated off the factory batt which will in turn have more amperage to run your system since the car is not running off the same batt.

Hope this helps!

wow.. mucho thanks for all da feedback.

He's using digital amps is he? What brand/model of amp is digital? I'm not positive but if im not an idiot then it would seem to me that your money would be spent elsewhere than buying a new battery. Think about it, the isolator and the battery are about 225 according to you...how much is a higher output alternator? I guarantee that a higher output alternator will do him better than loading down his current alternator with a second battery.

PS- the general rule is 1 farad per 1000watts, i don't think he's running 5000 watts
