Hey guys, tryin to figure out if I should get a new alt once I get my new system hooked up... right now I'm running about 600wRMS total between my subs and speakers, stock alt... 140amps. Optima Red Top under the hood, and the volts sit around 13.3-13.6 cruising at 13.0-13.1 at idle, and that's with the system turned up, A/C on, the whole nine yards. No lights dimming.

Looking to run an AQ2200D at full 2200w, plus the Infinity 300w.

Will I really need an alt upgrade? I'm leaning towards yes to be on the safe side but I'm just looking for some opinions first. Thanks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Do the big 3 in 1/0 and you should be ok. Only one way to find out. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I've also heard AQ amps are pretty efficient so I'll give it a whirl... got a while to wait though I'm putting this thing together over two months //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Make sure that if you do get major voltage drops not to crank on it too long before upgrading the electrical more. You dont want to ruin your alt and battery.

It's better to go slow and steady when choosing/building a system. Do it right the first time and you'll be much happier with the setup.

Can anyone recommend a decent high output alt brand between $300-$500? I've seen some that are WAY up there.
Popular ones around here are EA, irragi, mechman, ohio generator. Im thinkin about gettin one from db electrical but i have heard good and bad about them. They are cheaper then the others though. But It is said you get what you pay for.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Talk to Mechman. Great communications and prices. No experience with the alts themselves, but I have talked to the owner and he seems like he really knows his stuff! Havent heard a bad thing about their products either.

I have mused doing that, but I like keeping my jalopies looking OEM. Now if I knew how to fiberglass like NSTALN, I would have done it long ago.
