Wierd Sub Problem

I have the gains set perfectly with a DMM at a HU volume of 24 on an alpine. I normally listen at like 18-20 maybe 22 so i figure i should be okay setting it at 24. My question is that sometimes during songs the sub sounds like its almost louder hitting the same note (almost like a slapping during some parts causing it to be louder when it slaps). Not sure what is happening? Its in a 2.5 tuned to 30hz. SSF if at about 25 or so and LPF is at 80 or so. Anyone that can help id appreciate it. Also its not really like a slap slap, its just like for a second during a bass note it gets louder? and then goes back down to how it was.
