Possibly. But I'm more interested in knowing if this teacher finds him dateable. Because he seems to think that the only issue is him dating a professor, where the real problem is a professor dating a student. While I assume it's not against any written rules (although it may be in an ethics code), I also am sure that it would be highly frowned upon by her associates. So my question is what makes him think he would be able to date a professor just because he decides it would be fine. Has she shown an unmistakable interest?

She is definitely interested. I sort of went with it thinking she would eventually pull back and realize that this wasn't a smart move for her while she is applying for tenure, but she hasn't and it has progressed father than i had originally thought it would.

So now i am assessing the situation and deciding how to handle it.

She told me there are no rules against it, as long as it is consensual, but i cant imagine that the tenure committee would think it was a positive thing..

Well then this is an interesting situation. I don't see why you shouldn't go after it since she is clearly interested and the only one with possibly negative consequences are far as the university would be concerned is her. I think it's definitely thin ice, but it may be worth it.

Its already difficult to maintain two separate formats of interaction.. the dating format and the classroom format... and i think it would get exponentially harder if things get too serious...

plus i have actually worked at, and maintained, single status with nothing more than random hook-ups since i moved here.. i am very intent on NOT getting trapped in this state by some girl..

so how did this all start? did you just decide to flirt with your prof. to see what'd happen and she flirted back? i think if you didn't pursue this it would be something you would look back on and wonder "what if..."

it sort of developed organically.. through a project we worked on... we started txt'ing each other non-stop... and went out a few times.. now we sneak off together all the time.. I think a few other profs are suspicious.. as are a few students..

I would say that she initiated it.. and i responded.. she would probably say i initiated it and she responded..
