I've never heard anyone with a biodiesel-powered vehicle complain about top end speed, slight loss in HP perhaps, but 80+mph on the highway is fast enough for me. There are people going faster in all-electric conversions, anyway...I don't think they can with the current American culture....seriously.
All the "magic" alt fuel vehicles aren't as sustainable...can't drive 90 mph on the interstate...etc
Those biodiesel fuels....the cars don't really go as fast...and then you have to worry about the "bio" part. The other componets are not free...
I don't know where you're getting this info from, but that's not true generally. There are plenty of people that have disconnected entirely from the grid. That's actually a less legally-sticky matter than going grid-intertie, because you don't have to show the co-op that your inverter won't backfeed the grid during an outage, have to run a seperate meter if they used ratcheting meters that won't spin backwards, etc...Say you could build a windmill on your property to make your house indepedant...you still have to have a connection or they will have you house condemned.
