my xps m1210 runs it just fine with 2 gigs and a 2ghz C2D.

Do your laptops have dedicated or integrated graphics? I have a gf 7400, maybe that helps.

I am in no way an expert, but i believe that vista should probably have its own gpu if you want to have a good experience with all the eye candy turned on.
