has anyone here worked in a fastener plant that ships fasteners to automotive companies?

i have for 3 years and about 75 percent of our automotive fasteners(that we supply to gm and ford) we buy from taiwan and then ship them to automotive companies that are "made in america"

so at least a couple million dollars a year for fastners that the american car company is paying to us is going to taiwan. and thats just the small fraction that we supply to those plants. im sure the vast majority of fastener companies across the US do the same thing.

so no matter what that "made in america" vehicle really isnt entirely made in america.

i wonder how many other automotive parts are made overseas........

oh srim23..thats just scratching the surface.

mercedez ML...made in alabama

there is a TON of shit on benz vehicles that are GM parts believe it or not. nothing is what it seems anymore.

their is so many engine blocks that come from mexico its not even funny.

didnt mercedes merge with chrysler though? so i guess in the long run i could see chrysler buying parts from gm...

yeah i was kinda waiting for someone to say since its assembled in america the car is made in america lol to which i would say then i guess honda is made in america because my honda was assembled in ohio lol My honda is technically only 15% import(my transmission is actually from japan)

bet all the die hard domestic buyers really hated those toyota made in america commercials lol

Chrystler was bought from Daimler, by a hedge fund name Cerebrus.

As for the bolded part...

American cars are equated with cheap parts. They make break twice as quickly but cost 1/3.

mercedez bought chrysler for their technology. chrysler always comes up with pretty cool shit.

so the plan was to buy chrylser (which happened), get the technology, and now benz is trying to sell chrysler again (which they are having a ***** of a time. seem they cant make the price low enough). the merge served no other real purpose despite what they say.

they may cost a little more but honestly i think you get what you pay for. id much rather pay 15k for my fully loaded honda civic and know that in 3-5 years if i want to trade it in or sell it im going to get more for it.

my girlfriend had a 02 sunfire. thing looked like she just took it out of the showroom, and had just 33k miles. i had an 01 honda civic, couple dents, 2 rust spots, shitty lowering job, rode terrible, interior stained, 89k miles. we were both trading in at the same time. she got offers of 2500-4000 from about 7 dealerships she took it too. the 4k offer was from the dealership she worked at. i did the same and got offers of 5500-7800.

based on resale value and the fact that i beat the hell out of my old civic without 1 issue is what has me sold on honda/acura.

i will give props to my 1996 ***** am lt1 i had though. awesome car and with 110k miles on it still ran like new. sold it to a friend and by 115k it was hurting a little but nothing major. i miss that car.
