We have infinitely more choices now and are smarter with our purchases.

I agree that quality has improved, but the aesthetics are far, far behind. I started buying foreign 10 years ago when I decided it was time to feed my need to drive a car, as opposed to just getting from one place to the other. Now that performance has somewhat caught up it's time for innovation. Nice job getting ahead of the MPG curve too! It will be a decade before Ford/GM even have a prayer of getting market share back, if they're still in business; the only way to stay in business is the keep manufacturing domestic to appeal to their customer base. Without that ---------> Chapter 7.

Yes. Unions were good in making workplaces better, but they don't believe in giving back at all. I hate this aspect of them. They have turned the tables 180 in terms. Instead of workplace being hostile for employees they have become hostile for the employers. There has to be give and take in ANY relationship.

GM especially have great holdings in other contries of the world. They hold a small share in Fiat, Subaru, and worked with Toyota on joint ventures (Matrix/Vibe). They also own Holden (which IMO produces some of the nicest cars I have ever seen--http://www.holden.com.au/www-holden/action/modeloverview?modelid=4006). They own Daewoo and Opel/Vauxhall. GM is not only a US company. On the other hand, it would not hurt them to move out of contry and ship back. They already have vehicles being shipped into North America such as the Optra, Epica, and Aveo

I mean an accord really cost about $11K and a civic is about $7.5K.

The UAW has really become useless to the workers perspective on the job site. My union reps were useless. They always sided with company, and told me that my job was safe even though a doctor said my eyes were literally deteriorating from the job.

Most older 5 speed hondas have shi*t as a transmission. My integra needed a full ****** rebuild at 120k and CVS (which is not uncommon btw). It also needed a new ECU. The AC went out at 150k, and the power steering at 160k. I loved the car..still do, but stuff was falling apart bad. On top of that the sound of the engine and road penetrated whatever insulation was there. Overall i liked it...but it is in no way superior to other cars. My 93 thunderbird i had had absolutely no problems other than the recalled head gasket. My family's Chevy S10 4 wheel drive has rounded 200k. Id think that these companys should get more credit.

I'm from Michigan also, and Detroit is like a Industrial ghost town. I guess all them years of being forced by unions to pay people who stamp body panels 25$ a hour caught up to them.

Also alot of the cars most people think are foreign are really owned by Ford or GM.

FORD owns Volvo, Lincoln, Mercury, Mazda, Volvo, Jaguar, and Land Rover

GM owns Chevrolet, Buick, Pontiac, Saturn, Hummer, Saab, and Cadillac.
