living in detroit was so much greater then up north. people are friendlier, more excitement, closer to a lot of shit, lower cost of living, etc.

its an experience that most people never have. More people should, its not an entirely negative thing... but certainly not where i will spend the rest of my life.

Basically it boils down to culture VS community.

There is a sense of cohesion and loyalty found in small towns not found in the city. Once you are accepted and known its crazy how nice and trusting people are. People genuinely care about others in the community. Its really hard to describe what i mean, if you aren't familiar with it.

Think of life in mayberry (andy griffith), its still like that here. A perfect example is being able to charge things at local stores... how many of you can just go into the pharmacy, grocery, hardware store and just tell them to send you a bill?

The phone company/ cable company is LOCALLY owned for Christ sakes.. its not qwest/verizon/att, its owned by a family that lives in town...

There is no shortage of benefits to living in an urban area, unfortunately thats also true of the drawbacks of living in a metro area.

actually i find the city has more community like then the country. the town i live in has roughly 900 people. i do not sense any form of community here. i have yet to be accepted and the people are rude, and the town leaders are old and are holding the town back

in detroit, (we're talking 8 mile area) the neighbors were friendlier, we had community watches and meetings, and everybody knew each other. hell if one neighbor was having a bbq, everyone was invited. much more sense of community in detroit then up north.

I'll take the city if/when im earning well over the median salary for the area. Being broke in an urban area fukin licks musty taint.

Living in the ghetto is entertaining for a while, but quickly gets old, just like living in faulkton south dakota.

Personally id like to move back to the olympic peninsula in Wa state. Its small and feels isolated, but its a ferry ride away from victoria BC and about a two hour drive to seattle. I think its ideal, plus its beautiful... i should have never left.

Ive experienced the exact opposite. I mean here drivers wave to each other on the fukking highway. Total strangers.. its just customary to wave or nod your head at drivers you pass on the highway or street. I bet if you were from the town it would be different. If i could afford to live in a downtown seattle apartment (or any metro) and still have enough cash to live comfortably (eat out, waste money and have fun) i would in a second. But that shit takes a lot more than i could afford.

Living in small town can go both ways. Yes, there can be a sense of community. But the community can also be narrow minded, intrusive and yes bitter. Honestly, the people can be so bored that they have nothing else to do but stir up shit.
