ISLAMIC SWIMSUITS
Religiously conservative Muslim women in Turkey also want to enjoy the froth of the sea on the country's myriad beaches, and they have now thought of a novel to do so.
According to The Telegraph, Muslim women are promoting neck-to-ankle swimwear. The Islamic swimwear consists of a full-body suit and a hood that is pulled over a tight bonnet.
Over 25,000 such swimsuits have been sold in the past year and their leading maker, Hasema, is struggling to cope with demand. Hayrunnisa Gul, the wife of the country's foreign minister, is among its customers.
The swimsuits come in a range of colours and patterns and the latest versions let the sun through, allowing the wearer to obtain a tan.
Secularists in the country, however, contend that lifeguards are ordering women off beaches for wearing these bizarre swimsuits.
Women's clothing is a question of politics well as fashion in Turkey. There is constant over demonstration of beliefs between the conservatives and the secularists on these two issues. But since the election of the moderate Islamic government of Recep Tayyid Erdogan, Muslim women have been far less coy about demonstrating their beliefs in public. (ANI)
