I dual boot madriva and XP. I have to have XP, because I still enjoy my video games. Mac and the many flavors of Linux are all good OSes. I just hate poeple who think they are secure because an OS they use isn't enemy number 1 to a million destructive assholes.

Pound for pound, even a popular Linux distro with all the bells and whistles is harder to hack than a Mac or Windows. Hackers have automated the process of exploiting Windows already. Just do a vanilla install and connect to the internet. 10 minutes tops your PC has a new friend.

There are automated security auditors for nearly all platforms, [satan,l0phtcrack,etc] and with the MacOS being Darwin-based, I don't see why there should be an exception;

I will disagree that a 'vanilla' linux install is harder to hack than a vanilla mac install, for the fact that many full linux installs [redhat/mdk/ubuntu/etc/etc/etc/bin/var/oops] preconfigure more services than the mac.

Fact is, if Mac goes down the security-patch bug-fix road, it'll end up as shoddy as Windows, and I certainly don't like that idea.

I can't argue against any of that, but I will say switching out of MS Windows will immediately drop your chances of getting hacked or recieving trojans / spyware / viruses by 80 to 90%.
