I think its pretty sad that they do this in school. I remember when I was in Jr. High, a couple of kids got suspension for bringing condoms to school. Now the school is promoting underage ***. Nice

So if an 11 year girl goes to the school nurse and says "hey I'm fukin' but i dont want the preggers or teh super-aids. Hook a sista up with a rubber" the safe and responsible thing to do is to lecture her and tell her not to have ***?
Seems like an inadequate response to a huge problem. Giving them some protection and a little information to avoid some of the negative consequences of *** also seems inadequate, but less so than an unrealistic lecture.

That some is tax dollars to support the kids and parents via welfare programs. Less welfare = less taxes.

They are trying to keep taxes low...

i don't think distributing birth control to 11 year olds is an appropriate way to handle the situation, especially without parental consent.

An appropriate course of action would be an abstinence-centered ****** education program. Spend a lot of time on the dangers of STD's, the negative impacts *** has on adolescents, the risks, etc. If we educate the students and teach them how to make an educated and responsible decision, and continuously reinforce that, then the kids will be better off. Also, rather than simply say, "okay, here's birth control pills and a few condoms," the school should allow the nurse to discuss the choice to have *** with students and discourage it in a one-on-one, confidential setting.

I think if kids are more educated and have a someone to ask questions and confide in, I think we will be far better off than just handing out birth control. Then in the few cases where kids/families still wish for birth control they can be referred to a free clinic.

The information should be accurate and timely. Telling kids if they have ***, they automatically get aids is just as worse as handing out the condoms.

Furthermore, I never went to a school that had a nurse. Small medical issues (cuts, scrapes, etc) are handled by the teacher...anything worse was handled by a phone call to the parents.

Our schools always had at least one nurse and counselors. Obviously these schools have nurses because not just your average Joe can administer birth control.

I'm not saying that we should lie to the kids, but if preventing pregnancy is the main concern, the *** ed program should focus on negative aspects of *** as well as the positives of abstinence. It should not be a comprehensive *** ed program, but one to at least have kids wait a few years to have ***. Also, *** ed needs to be given several times a year, rather than the 2 days of puberty videos most schools do.
