i had my 8455 clip at 76.

Be sure to set your gains/volume using a REAL CD, not a cdr...for instance most cdrs with avg recording quality would need another 10-12 volume points to get equally as loud on my deck..

using my cd3434 and the AS2K cd and 0dB 1kHz tones with my oscope. I found that the front/rear preouts clip volume 79, and the NF preouts clip @ volume 79 with the level on 8. So I set my gains @ volume 78.

49?? 60 is 75% of 80.
I've had my 8455 at 76, but typically run it at 66-70 when pumping up the volume. This is using regular CDs....

Do the math and youll see, either that or you dont know your HU very well.

He might also be referring to the SLA

75 is like 95% up I would back it back down a bit, some where around 75%..volume 49.

Okay, so maybe the numbers start higher than 1 and thus 49 is *your* key number?

Subwoofer control on my 8455 goes to 6. I do remember my older units going to 16, though. I think he's talkin' about something else when he says output at +10, but dunno what.

As for keeping things down to 49, that just means that your gains are higher than they should be - you want your gains as low as possible while still getting the volume you want when your v-knob is turned to the maximum prior to clipping. so, if the units don't clip until 78 (or whatever the determined level is, and it is definitely not 49), then that's where you really want it, I would think.
