is it ok for a guy 5 foot tall 170lbs to play basketball with a guy 6'6 250lbs? is that fair? isnt it done anyways? i dont see you writing the NBA complaining there..

I bet you cannot name 10 professional basketball players with those characteristics that consistantly play agianst opponets with the latter characteristics.
It situations where a player has a great height, speed, etc advantage the competitor creates a strategy that makes the taller, faster, more athletic player lose its comparatve advantage.
For instance, could a basketball team not double-team the taller player while on defense and use the player as a decoy while on offense?

I already covered non-team sports such as archery and target shooting when I explained the relative fairness of people competing against people. Especially for an event as both parties are aware in advance, and can practice and train for it.
Pretend you are at a lake with some friends. Out of nowhere a trained competitive swimmer pushes you in and begins swimming. You aren't even aware you are competing. You are not prepared, wearing the correct attire, etc. Hell, you were chatting with some girls with a beer in your hand. Are you automatically going to take off swimming with the other guy?
You do not know where you are swimming to or even why you are swimming. You don't know any of the rules. 1 minute later the guys stops and declares victory.
This is what I mean by a sporting chance.
