also the dude above me.... thats ****ing sick. you can get rid of those you know.

So you all know i'm going to Korea. That means i need to get rid of directv.

The first time i called and asked about it they said when my receiver broke in January, and they sent me a new one, that started my 2 year contract over again and that it would be $20 for every month left.

That pissed me off because they never told me that when they replaced their broken *** DVR. I lease the equipment and it break... they get to extend my contract?!

So today i call to cancel and i was ready to fight with this bastard and try to get that fee waived. Instead of the grueling battle with horrid customer service rep i was prepared for, the guy told me i wasn't under contract.

wtf?!

I KNOW i am still within the two years of my original contract, but only by a few months..

I have a horrid feeling that when i return from Korea there will be some giant bill in collections from these sneaky bastards.

What should i do?

i dont really wanna pay them any money before i leave, i'd rather have cash for korea.

But i also dont want to return to some shit in collections with a hit on my credit score.

I'm ambivalent.

they have to have that in recording for a period of time iirc. call back soon to check on it and confirm that the contract and service is infact canceled. if not, tell them that you already talked to someone. if they give you grief escalate it to the next in command and go from there.

Happened to us once. We canceled our service one day, next thing you know I had a 250 dollar charge on my account. I had automatic payments set up with them. I called and the lady tried to tell me that I had renewed my contract when "their" DVR took a crap and was replaced. I asked her, how in the world was that my fault? If I would have known that it came with a contract renewal I would have canceled it then and there. She said I can have a manager give you a call in a few days or you can hold on till I find one. I said oh let me think wait a few minutes, tops hour or so, to get my money back. Or should I wait a few days? I told her I will hold, she had someone on the line in five minutes. They gave me my money back, I suggest you call and ask for a manager.

i got directv years ago and signed a contract. i had it for 4 months, then needed to move and just told them to put a hold on my account until i got settled in my new place

that was 8 years ago, havent heard from them since:)

however SBC is trying to charge me $300+ for a modem i returned to them 4 years ago:(
