hey the past couple days i think my amp has been acting up. on monday i started to hear what sounded like a "metallic" bass coming from the sub.. it was like the sub was playing higher frequencies than usual and it gave off a "metal room" sounding effect. it went away after a couple of times and was working fine for the past two days. today i went to start my car and right when the CD player turned on, the sub began playing what sounded like a sine wave.. i dont think it was EXACTLY a sine wave but it sounded much like it.. like a 60hz - 120hz frequency or something similar... i went to turn the volume to 0 on my deck and the sound was still playing.. the speakers are working fine while all of this is happening. well i put my seat down and secured the RCAs and it seemed to work fine. it began happening again when i got to work so again, i put my seat down and wiggled the RCAs again. this time, it didn't go away. but as soon as i turned the crossover knob on the amp the sound went away. im wondering what can cause this and am wondering if this all has to do with the crossover knob. im beginning to think that maybe the crossover knob has something to do with both situations with the amp (the humming AND the metal sounding noise)? any help wll be greatly appreciated.. this amp is starting to get me mad!!

PS - its an MTX 1501d modded to accept a 1 ohm load

Mine was doing that when my a set of RCA's wore through and started to short out. Well something like that anyways. Cant really tell if its the same sound without hearing it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif . But I would check the entire run of the RCA cable. As far as the crossover knob fixing it thats weird.

i guess the next time it does it i should pull the RCAs out? but im afraid of doing that while everything is powered! maybe when i can handle not having a sub, ill unplug the RCAs from the sub amp and let it stay powered and see if it ever happens..

if you pull the rca's out with it powered on there's a VERY GOOD chance of frying the rca jacks on the amp AND/OR the HU's rca pre-outs as well. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
which is why i dont plan to do that:)
