Why did my sub blow?

So what I should do is keep the head unit settings low, and increase my gain on my amp for volume? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/idea.gif.5acb6a39a9b92425414c316dda202bad.gif

No, turn your bass EQ on the H/U 3/4 the way up, turn your H/U volume 3/4 the way up or until it reaches it max unclipped volume. Get a DMM and check the output voltage of the H/U using the RCA's. Write that number down, plug the RCA's into the amp (make sure you have the subs wired as well). Leave the H/U setting were they are and turn the gain on the amp up until you match the output voltage of the H/U.

Instead of asking the same question over and over, you really need to do some research. This info has be posted countless times. This info is readily available if you use the search function.

Basically. People will tell you that gain is not a volume control but, it detemines how much amplification your signal gets. Trying to save you some headaches from other members...

Do what Villeza1 said and you should be good.

the signal was definitely clipped, bass boost on head units is garbage... or any bass boost for that matter.
It's not a bass boost. It controls the sub pre output voltage.

O the SMD thing... that's not even an oscope thats a box with an idiot light

He even has a video where he tests it and it starts lighting up WELL after clipping starts.

ah ok so it was an attenuator then

Then they compared it to an O-Scoped and was like, "I think the O-Scope is wrong?" Lol

EDIT: Man I can't type today. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
