Who under powers their sub?

But not on this forum where it is a pissing contest and the cheapest dollar/watt usually wins.

I like to go by a general rule of thumb. If you know you're subs can handle that much power....give them that much power. If you have enough power, then you just have to set gain for your subs to get loud. If they are underpowered.....well then you risk gaining to the point of clipping, or bass boosting and adding distortion to your subs to get them loud. Most of the time anyway.

Sure, if you don't set your amp gains correctly, or build and efficient enclosure, or don't save up money for a quality amp, or don't have the current supply for the amplifier's needs, etc etc.. 99% of the time, sub woofers / speakers die due to the control of (or lack there of) the volume knob.

I agree even if your system is set and a freind was to use said vehicle anx crank the hu up to a point where it distorts the signal it will amplify the distortion to the subs and the signal is at this point clipping

well I mean you set the gains at 3/4 volume, so until that point and under there should be no clipping. Above that there will be clipping but I will rarely put it that loud and slap any friends who try to go above that mark as well. Plus I know the SDC2.5 is power hungry but AQ says it will work well of 500-600rms. I'm giving it around 430rms according to the birth sheet of the kicker amp. The 70rms difference shouldnt be that bad.
