Who under powers their sub?

I'm looking to get an SDC2.5 but amps are expensive lol. I found a kicker zx400, which does 400rms at 2 ohms. The sub is rated at 500-600rms. How bad would it be to only give it 400rms?

I'd like to hear from people who actually do run less than suggested power to their subs.

Every single person on here underpowers their subwoofer(s).
Pushing a sub rated for 1000 off 1500w from an amp that is considered by many as "dirty power" and haven't had any issues //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

OP you could get something like this:

Audiopipe AQX-1200.1 1200W Mono D Amplifier : AQX12001 : $208.95 : VMInnovations.com

It's the newer AP line and they are nice. Alternatively, you can get this which is cheaper:

Audiopipe AP15001D 1500W Mono D Amplifier : $158.95 : VMInnovations.com

I prefer to stay away from AP. Ive seen a lot of threads about their design flaws that worry me. My budget is also like 160 or so for an amp.

The only other one I am considering is an MB quart Onx1.1000D, basically the same price.

I'm not sure which to get yet, but I'm leaning towards the kicker.

power ratings are only suggestions, they should not be taken literally.
I was just under the impression that underpowering them will cause them to basically, idk how to put this. Not play as they should. Or keep the sub from sounding as it should.

In the same box, more power will be louder, provided the sub can handle the added power. When giving a sub less power, you can compensate by using a larger box to make the system more efficient instead of relying on more power to amplify a less efficient setup.
