Who under powers their sub?

I run two 12" HX2's(had three) on a RF power series T600.2 @ 2ohms and they only get about 375w apiece instead of the 500w rms there rated for but the last time I threw one on that amp at 750w @2ohms it separated the coil from the cone I dont think that would have happened if there had been a subsonic filter on the amp but the coil didnt look new anymore either so 125w under rms allows me to abuse them a little without destroying them.

Sounds like you might have clipped it

well I'm gonna get the mb quart if I don't get the kicker. I'd save a lot getting the kicker so I'll hear back from the guy in a few days.

can anyone answer my question about how high I can turn up the HU volume once the gains are set?

set your gains with the HU at the highest point you plan to turn it up to. then there will be no issue.

I'm running ~1200 per sub to my BL's, they could take a lot more.

underpower or overpower most failures are either simply a bad speaker or clipping.

I ran a DD3512 on a kicker zx300.1 for a while until i could get a bigger amp and it was fine.

Also ran a old school JL w3 (rated at 300, i think) with 600 rms and it was fine.

I see what u guys are saying. it will all come down to tuning.

hopefully the deal works. his amp is almost new and I got him down to 90 for it.

Sounds like you might have clipped it

I did I was lazy about setting the gains didnt feel like digging for the DMM and removing the interior, but we all know what ya get when you half a** it on setup, It's all good now **** sure wasnt about to kill two mint 12" hx2's, just went through a spell there of buying subs cheap at pawn shops and not adj gains for the diff between ohm loads my amps are a pain to access

No such thing as underpowering. In my experience, it is always better to go with the higher quality amplifier of less power, then the lower quality amplifier ratted for more. But not on this forum where it is a pissing contest and the cheapest dollar/watt usually wins.

Well the amp is a kicker zx400.1, so its decent quality. Birth sheet says 435 rms. I was going to get the 2.5 but now its sold out. A 10 is too small and a 15 I can't fit.

I'm actually considering a SDC2.0 on account of how cheap it is. I think under 100 shipped.

That or a 187 if I find a good deal on one. Hopefully since they are redoing that model I can find one for a good price.

btw, n e one on here used/hear a 2.0?

I run about 100 watts lessthan my subs are rated for but any higher my amp will start to clip. Does good to do 1400 out of a amp the manufacturer rated at 1000 and other sites rate at 1200 . My gain is just a little oover 1/2.
