Who has lost faith in religion?

I dont go to church but I do have a boy thats a preacher in training. We had this same conversation. He said the bible says "have faith in no man, but have faith in the lord." The world and man is corrupted. By *** money and greed. Three causes for the fall of all great nations through out history.

I guess I just have a problem believing in what I view as a "blind faith."

I don't blame you! I wouldn't want anyone to accept something as crutial as a religion, blindly. I grew up in the church and accepted it for most my youth, but then went through some serious doubts due to some hard times in my life. I needed to know for sure what I was believing in and if it was the real deal or not, so I started researching, questioning and, to be fair, praying. I figured if He was real I'd see answers, if He was not, well then the research and lack of answers would speak for themselves.

Needless to say, God answered me...again and again and again and again...

Plus, the research, which I figured would tear my faith apart, did just the opposite. It has bolstered my faith. Keep in mind, I refused to be biased. I didn't get so mad at God that I was determined to find all the evidence against Him, but at the same time, my doubts were real and I had no agenda to ignore evidence that didn't help Him. My point is, you have to read both sides of the story, without it you just do not have a complete picture.

It's funny you should say that, because statistically speaking, those are precisely the things that have marked every once great nation or kingdom that has seen it's demise.

In the early books of the Bible, I want to say Exodus particularly; God tells the Israelites that if they obey His commands they will be blessed (itemizes several specifics), but if they do not, they shall be cursed (itemizes again). We have our connotations for the words "blessed" and "cursed" and they do indeed have some spiritual meaning behind them, but for the moment consider them purely as descriptions of the end result. In other words, if we followed God's guide lines (commandments) for what is best for our lives, good things would follow. If however you did not, and pursued lifestyles that are unhealthy, then bad things would inevitably follow. For instance, you save money and it grows and you have a safety net. You spend it all the minute you get it and you spend your life not having any money and going further and further into debt. People look at God's commandments as restrictive and domineering, the reality is they are freeing and loving. Most parents would understand that.

Do you know what faith is?You won't lose faith if you truly have faith. With faith, comes repentence and commitment of a life for God. If you are a Christian and you have faith in God, this means that you believe that God exists, you believe that God created everything and set it in motion, and believe that God reigns above all. We have to realize that God does reign above all and the things that happen in this world are beyond our comprehension. It is too much for us to understand. Everything happens for a reason. I can't explain it, or why, but I have faith in God and it doesn't just fall apart because of a tsunami or a war.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

I really do. I want to have some form of answer.... to me its a very scary thing!

Understood. Let me just add this, the Bible says "Seek and you shall find. Knock and the door shall be opened to you." This is a too serious subject to casually write off, as many people do. Keep searching for truth. God is not afraid of questions and He has an emmense amount of grace for the process of discovery. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Death scares most people when they truly think about it. I'd like to make a suggestion, it would be to read the book of John, fourth book in the New Testament. If at all possible, in a easier to read translation (i.e. translation besides King James). The third chapter deals in part with one man's struggle to believe, but that's not the only part that relates to what you're experiencing so don't limit it to just that chapter. It helped me when I was dealing with what you are discribing. Take care friend.
