Which Truck to Get?

I'm thinking about getting a new or slightly used truck. So far I've looked into Ford, Nissan and GMC, thought about Dodge and Toyota. I'm just looking for a gas engine, no diesel (in the future maybe) preferably full size or the larger mid-size ones, 4x4 required. I don't plan on towing anything and this will be for mountain and desert roads to get to hunting and shooting spots, don't plan on taking it to dunes or severe off roads stuff.

I really don't know a whole lot about the different trucks out there, but here is a list of what I like and dislike about brands and models:

Ford - I like the 04-08 body style of the F150, if I can find a used one with low mileage I may go with that. Heard that they are really dependable, but every truck owner says that. The dealer we will go to has sold my grandma a lot of cars over the years and treat us well.

Nissan - I like the looks of the Titan and Frontier, don't know much else or how Nissan trucks stack up against American ones or Toyota.

GMC/Chevy - My family's had quite a few GM's over the years, the dealership has been great to us, just looking to change it up since the past 4 cars we have had have been GM, not counting work cars either. Plus, changing the HU in GM's can be a PITA with all the controls and stuff located in the factory hu. I like how the trucks look though.

Dodge - I liked the size of the Dakota but they don't make them anymore. The Ram is idk, seems alright but the Ford and Chevy guys I know say stay away from the Rams. Don't know if it's all bias or what. Another guy I know had a Ram and said he wouldn't buy one again.

Toyota - Don't really care for the rounded shape of the Tundra, the new Tacoma seems really nice but 3 of my close buddies have Tacoma's so I don't want to be that *** that brings another Tacoma into the group. Plus my family has never owned a Toyota. Nothing against them, I hear they are crazy reliable but the Toyota nuthugging gets annoying.

So, someone help me pick out a truck. Y'all helped me pick out a Grand Cherokee for my mom awhile back which was awesome until the dealer became a douche and we went with the Yukon.

2001 Dodge Ram 2500 crew cab with the Cummins inline 6 Deisel. end of story. my step dad pulls an 18 ft work trailer with ~8K lbs of tools n such every day and has for the past 10 years with it. never given him any problems. his previous truck was a 98 Ram 2500 with a gas engine.

Did you read ANYTHING in the original post?

yes i did, i kno he isnt planning on towing anything, but with the deisel and the optional lower ratio axles its a torque monster. personally i prefer deisel trucks to gas trucks, i was giving him my opinion. if he intends to offroad torque is a BIG plus. and for low RPM torque you cant beat a deisel. plus deisels have a much longer lifespan than gas engines(1,000,000 miles with regular services), and you hardly ever break down in a deisel. ultimatley he will choose what he wants from the ideas given. this is my idea.

I understand the benefits of diesels. I think diesel engines are awesome but I will not be the only one buying the truck. My grandma is going to help out with some payments and maybe my mom will too. I don't think they will help me out that much if I say I want a diesel.

I'm leaning toward the F150. Either 07 or newer.

Buy a Chevy

/thread

lol seriously though, stay away from the Rams, idk about the newest models, but I know a handful of people that own(ed) them and every single one hated it and had problems.

The Tacoma's are nice trucks, my Dad's ex-wife has owned several through the years, and she's picky, but keeps going with the Tacoma.

You could always get an X-Runner if your friends don't have it and be the cool kid haha

The older Toyota's have fared pretty well, atleast the ones my friends have owned. Dodge I ALWAYS have seen problems with. Ford and Chevy are about on the same page IMO, both are fairly reliable in my experiences, would come down to price between those two for me. I don't know about Nissan.

F150 that motor is proven there nice trucks really not to bad on gas either

And if u went newer then 08 that new v6 ecoboost is the ****!!

Wow that V6 EcoBoost is quite impressive. I almost wrote it off for the V8 but then I forget how much I love the Nissan GTR with it's badass V6.

That helps open up my options now.

Just speaking about the full-sizes from 07+, not sure about the 150's, but I know when something goes wrong with the engines in the bigger ones, if it's in the wrong spot, they have to pull the clip and cab off to get to it and it's a big bill.

Well that's good to know. I don't think I will get the biggest engine option just to keep prices down a bit. If it's not a twin turbo V6 then it will be whatever V8 is the most bang for buck. Still considering GMC or Chevy along with Ford. Just depends on what offers they have and how much the dealer bends over.
