As the title says... which sub would be a better choice for my amp?

I'm new to the world of car audio and from what I can see, the main difference between these two subs is that the Alpine SWR-1043D is 4 ohms and the SWR-1023D is 2 ohms.

Thanks,

Joel

Here's the Alpine MRD-M605's specs:

Class D mono subwoofer car amplifier

RMS Power Rating:

300 watts x 1 chan. at 4 ohms

600 watts x 1 chan. at 2 ohms

internal, variable-speed cooling fan

Amp Link for single-cable hookup to compatible Alpine receivers

STAR Topology for cleaner sound

Bass Engine® features:

Low-pass digital filter, 30-200 Hz, with a selectable 12 or 24 dB/octave slope

Selectable subsonic filter (off, 15Hz, or 30 Hz)

Parametric EQ variable from 30-160 Hz, ±12 dB

Bass Compensator enhances low-end definition

And now the subs:

Alpine SWR-1023D

10" subwoofer with dual 2-ohm voice coils

Kevlar reinforced pulp cone with Santoprene rubber surround

cast aluminum frame with perimeter venting and radial finned heat sink

frequency response: 26-200 Hz

power handling: 300-600 watts RMS (300 watts per coil)

peak power: 1,800 watts

sensitivity: 83 dB

top-mount depth: 5-7/8"

sealed box volume: 0.5-1.0 cu. ft.

ported box volume: 0.8-1.5 cu. ft.

warranty: 1 year

Alpine SWR-1043D

10" subwoofer with dual 4-ohm voice coils

Kevlar reinforced pulp cone with Santoprene rubber surround

cast aluminum frame with perimeter venting and radial finned heat sink

frequency response: 26-200 Hz

power handling: 300-600 watts RMS (300 watts per coil)

peak power: 1,800 watts

sensitivity: 83 dB

top-mount depth: 5-7/8"

sealed box volume: 0.5-1.0 cu. ft.

ported box volume: 0.8-1.5 cu. ft.

I would suggest getting the D4 subwoofer and wire it like this for a 2ohm load

I agree with above. That generation of type-r was rated for 600watts RMS, good match for your amplifier when wired for 2ohm load.

I'm glad that I asked. Since I was planning on having it at 2 ohms, I figured that the SWR-1023D would be the best choice since it was already at 2 ohms.

With my set up, what's the benefit of going with the SWR-1043D vs. the SWR-1023D?

Thanks,

Joel

Well, we already told you, go with the subwoofer that can be wired for 2ohm impedance. Get the SWR-1043D and wire it as shown on the picture. This is called parallel wiring of voice coils. If you start with dual 4ohm vc subwoofer, the final impedance will be 2ohm. If you got the 2ohm dvc model and wired it this way, the final impedance would be 1ohm, which is too low for many amplifiers.

That would be a function of the harness, not the HU, I think. Have you looked into a Maestro or iData interface? i would check with crutchfield...

thanks DB, that definitely helps swallowing a $300 price tag 😂 these would essentially be running midbass for me too

What is your budget? With being exposed to Rain.. I would recommend looking at a marine grade SAS Bazooka for the sub stage

Don't forget Hoffman's Iron Law. You can have 2 of the 3: low end, efficiency/sensitivity or small enclosure size...
