which set up is better for max power and performance

i have a legacy 1200w amp stable @ a 2 or 4 ohm load , and 2 pioneer 1200 w subs. is it better to wire both subs up @ a 4 ohm load, or is at better to use one sub at a 2 ohm load. which one will give me more bass and power as of sound. will one sub getting all the power from the amp make more sound or will both generate more sound ? which is perfered for more sound and also which is better on the subs and the amp as of life and health ?
