I have a kicker cvr 12 and a kenwood kac-7205 and the amp is bridged so it puts out 500 watts rms to the sub. I have a sony xplod cdx-gt35uw head unit. I have stock door speakers. The bass makes the stock door speakers get VERY distorted. Even at low volume with the bass set at 0db from the HU. So should i get new speakers, or bass blockers? I dont know much about bass blockers other than the fact they are cheap. Are they easy to install? worth it? Do they actually block bass from going to speakers? I know new speakers would also make sound quality and loudness improve right? Also which bass blockers would i get there are a bunch of different ones. I have a 08 ford focus sedan btw.

If there is a High Pass Filter (HPF) on your Head Unit you will want to turn it on to 80-100Hz. That will prevent bass from going to your speakers

So im probably gona get the bass blockers. Could some one tell me which ones i need? There a few different ones. Also how hard are they too install?? all i have ever done by my self is remove my door panel, bridge my amp, and take my sub out of the box... lol. Could i do it?

bass blockers are rated via impedance, db slope, and cut off mark.

You will want some rated for your impedance, cut off mark i'd say 100-200hz is fine and a slope between 12-18db. You could do a 24db slope if your cut off mark is around 100-125hz.

just buy a good hu and you will never regret it in the long run!! now thats not dificult is it??
Its very difficult. i just bought this head unit yesterday and had it installed. Im flat out broke lol which is why im guna get bass blockers

You cannot find Bass Blockers in a 12, 18, or 24dB slope. The only way to achieve those steeper slopes is to add addition inductors and capacitors.

A Bass Blocker is a capacitor...nothing more. It acts like a 6dB per octave crossover and using only this on a set of front speakers will be fine. The benefits to steeper slopes is that you can cross them over at a lower frequency and increase the power going to the speaker. At 6dB, I'd shoot for something north of 200hz. At 100hz, you'll be -6dB and at 50hz you'll be -12dB. If you go the DIY route and decide to make a passive 12dB crossover, I'd stay north of 160hz.
