Which Gauge size to choose for my amps? Please HELP!!

Hey guys have a question on which amp kit I should buy and the guage of the wire. My system is a memphis pr1.1000 amp and is going to be pushing 2 15' memphis pr's. My other amp is a 600w 4 channel sony amp that is going to be powering 4 jl audio speakers.

The pr1.1000 isnt going to be turned up all the way obviously since the pr's together can only handle 500rms combined and 250rms for each. So they are going to be running around 500-600watts consistently off that amp. The speakers about 60rms each so about 240rms with them all combined. So my system is going to pushing around 700-850rms. Now with the dual amp kit i am not sure what I should get. If i get the 4 gauge that splits into 8 guage does this mean that the 8 guage is going to be running into both of my amps? Isnt that gonna not give enough power to the memphis for its full potential? I feel like the memphis should be at least running off a 4 guage, but then again I have been looking at amp kits that say that the 4 guage running into the distribution block is all I need. Can someone please explain how this works and what I am going to need. I don't want to be not getting full power out of my amps due to guage size. I want to have that full 800rms system. What do you guys reccomend? I really need some advice/help cuz im going nuts:crazy: is this good?http://cgi.ebay.com/TSUNAMI-4-8-GAUGE-DUAL-AMP-KIT-DISTRIBUTION-BLOCK-RCA_W0QQitemZ350316780297QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item519081db09#ht_2128wt_1165

Alright heres what it sounds like to me

You got a 4 guage runnin from the battery, into a distribution block,

that spits out 2 8 gauge wires, Now what I would do is,

Im guessing they don't make a bigger dual wiring kit from the store your

gonna be buyin this frrom so you should just get 4 guage wiring from the bat

to the amp obviously put a fuse inbetween the amp and the bat, then get 8 guage

wire and run it from the bat to the smaller amp and you'll be set, might cost a little more

but you'll be much more satisfied with the outcome.

Best Wishes,

Don't use an 8 gauge kit. It's not large enough. 4 gauge minimum and what most people would recommend. Personally, I would look around and get a 1/0 wiring kit. This way you're getting the most out of your amps right now and not losing much due to resistance on the power wire. It's also ready for the future if you ever choose to upgrade. I'm just a believer in doing things right the first time instead of just doing what is "good enough".

Dont you guys think that small 1k amp is only gonna have

4 guage inputs?? He really only needs 4 guage Im sure he's not

going to be pullin more than 130 amps, thats what 4 guage is rated for.

Or did you mean 1/0 into a distributer and then fish out 2 wires to the amps??

The kit I posted is 0 guage to a fused distro, then 4 guage from there.

The fact of the matter is it never hurts to go bigger, but a good dual amp 4/8 kit will be more than adequate.

Unless, of course, your plan is to blast test tones 24-7, or the length of the 8 gauge from the d-block to the amps is going to be 10'+.

That scosche kit is left wide open for interpretation too. I'm GUESSING it's bigger than 4 gauge, but those wire sizes in mm don't mean much at all because the diameter of 1/0 awg is 8.2mm, and 4 awg is about 5.2mm. They're giving measurements of the outside of the insulation. There's no telling how big the wire actually is. On top of that they don't even give the fuse size which is usually a pretty good indicator of the real size.
